Twenty Questions with Byron Bay Photographer
In five words describe yourself.
Artistic, perfectionist, funny, loyal, ambitious.

Which TV character most closely resembles you in character?
Lisa Simpson.  I  understand her nerdiness, her emotions and her causes.

What are your obsessions?
I love reading!  If my nose is in a book by the time 9:30pm rolls around
then I am happy. I absolutely love the Harry Potter series and my all time favourite
books are "To Kill A Mockinbird", "The Book Thief" and "Angela's Ashes".
My favourite JK Rowling book is "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows"

What do you do to relax?
Apart from reading books, I like going for long walks with my dog and exploring day trips with my family.
If I find myself in front of the television, I like to have a laugh at The Big Bang Theory
and I am a bit of a Mythbusters fan.
And coffee.  Lots of coffee...

Tell us a little about your family.
I am married to a crazy inventor and together we have two beautiful kids (a son and a daughter)
who are growing up way too fast for my liking and one pretty amazing fur-baby,
our nutty but lovable Labrador x Cattle Dog, Marley.

What makes you happy?
I am happiest when there is no pressure on me to do anything and I can just totally relax with a good book.
Getting into a bed of freshly washed sheets also makes me happy.
My kids, when they aren't fighting, make my heart sing.

What makes you sad?
Cruelty to animals makes me desperately sad. Testing products on animals makes me desperately sad.
Humans who have no care for either of these issues make me even sadder.

What music do you like listening to?
Can you even go past 1980s pop?

What is your greatest achievement?
Lifetime: My two children, by far and away.
Most recent: Refraining from eating Milo out of the tin with a spoon last night.

Why did you choose photography as a career?
I'm arty.  I like making things look pretty.  I love making people feel great about how they look.
That's it in a nutshell!

Hobbies?
I love op-shopping!
How amazing is that feeling of finding something awesome!?!

What's the most amazing place you have ever been to?
Venice in Italy.  Hideously expensive but so worth it.
It was stinky and crowded and totally in ruins but at the same time: surreal and romantic
and just the most beautiful place ever.

Have you always lived in the Northern Rivers?
No. I grew up in a little beachside town on the mid-north coast near Kempsey.
I moved to Sydney when I was 22 which was where I met my husband.
We moved to the Northern Rivers about 11 years ago when our first child was two,
wanting to bring him up away from the city. Not long after our move our second baby was born.

How did you and your husband meet?
Way before the days of internet dating there was a little thing called "personals" in the newspapers.
And that's how we met; through an ad in the newspaper! Way back in 1997 to be precise!
We got married in 1999 on the Sydney Harbour foreshores over looking the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

Your favourite movie?
I love anything that makes me laugh.

Who would you most like to meet an why?
I would have loved to have met Robin Williams.  Not only was he a fabulous actor but also a tortured soul.
I would love to tell him that we all have shit days.  That it won't always be bad. RIP Robin.
If I had to choose somebody alive, I would choose Richard Branson.
I'd like to sit down with him for an hour (or six), share a bottle of vino and get inside his head.
He's creative, generous, and daring... I'm sure he could help out my little photography business!

What song is stuck in your head at the moment?
"Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran

What towns do you photograph in?
I photograph in whatever town I am needed in.  Locally, I shootlots of weddings in Byron Bay, Lismore, Yamba, Ballina and Coffs Harbour.
The furthest afield I have gone to photograph a wedding is Wellington in New Zealand
(my favourite country in the world apart from
Australia of course).

What's better: Nikon or Canon?
Although I am a Nikon shooter, I truly believe that they are both as good as each other.
There should be no debate about which is the better.
After all the camera is only as good as the person controlling it.
It is not the wand but the magician who makes the magic happen.

What is the best life advice you can give me?
Be kind to yourself.  And floss your teeth daily. :-)
