A Byron Bay Wedding

What makes a couple from Western Australia travel across the country to get married in Byron Bay? Dana and Richard did just that a few months back when they had their wedding in Byron Bay.

It's hard not to love Byron Bay with it's laidback lifestyle, idyllic beahces (okay, you can kinda loathe it during Schoolies week but hey...)and it's fun-loving locals and tourists. When I first met Dana and Richard a year out from their wedding (we did their engagement shoot on the train tracks in Byron Bay) they told me they chose Byron Bay because it is one of their most favourite places.  Pure and simple.

I was literally in awe of these two. Imagine trying to organise a wedding from over 4000 kilometres away?  Imagine trying to organise and co-ordinate celebrants, venues, wedding photographers not to mention accomodation without seeing or even meeting some of these people before your big day? Way back in the age of dinosaurs when I got married, I remember how stressful it was to organise a harbourside wedding in Sydney from 5 kilometres away!

Dana actually found me, her wedding photographer, through socail media.  So a big thank you to Facebook it is! And hats off to Dana and Richard who tackled the task of co-ordinating their wedding from the other side of the country with gusto and flair. Not one little sign of Bridezilla at all (or Groomzilla for that matter!).

With a ceremony held at Ewingsdale chapel, we took to the local fig trees to take some of their wedding photos and then headed up to the Byron Bay Lighthouse for some more wedding photography.  It was a dream of Richard's to have wedding photos taken in front of the Lighthouse so who am I to come between a man and his dream?  I won't lie: Byron Bay Lighthouse can pose several issues for us mere mortal werdding photographers, not only is the parking kind of challenging (alright, it sucks) but it is usually over run with tourists (great for the local economy, but tricky for wedding photography!).  It must have been our lucky day because not only did we get a prime parking spot but the tourists were mindful of us.  The above photo only had a little bit of photoshopping done to remove three gentlemen who were having the best of chats whilst leaning on a fence. Bless them.

But today, instead of bombarding you with all of Dana and Richard's wedding photos, I want to preview a little of the fun and frivolity of their wedding reception instead, which was held at Clarke's Beach at the Beach Cafe, one of Byron Bay's finest for wedding receptions. I love being a wedding photographer at this venue! I have photographed several weddings there now and it is always such an amazing place.

Being a wedding photographer in this beautiful Byron Bay region, I get to meet some amazing couples.  I will forever be grateful for meeting these two wonderful people. Through being their wedding photographer, we have forged a friendship that will see out our years. I am very much looking forward to catching up with them again when they travel to the East Coast.
