Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy browsing as much as I enjoyed taking the shots!
Kiara and Tye's Engagement Portraits
It is always an absolute pleasure to be the photographer for an engagement portrait session and this session proved to be no different. Kiara and Tye just radiated love for one another and it was an honour to be able to document this love that they have. For those of you who live in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, you will be well aware that we have recently been inundated with rain, rain and more rain. Kiara and Tye's engagement shoot was originally planned to be in the great outdoors but as it happens, it was bucketing down with rain on the day so we opted for some classic studio portraits.
They were an absolute delight to photograph and oh so photogenic! With those looks it certainly made my job as photographer a very easy one! What a beautiful bride Kiara is going to make.
I kept these engagement portraits very simple, with the couple wearing complimentary clothing to avoid cluttering the shot. I always advise my clients when they are having their portrait taken to wear simple, slogan free, pattern free clothing (neutral colours work best) so that their clothing does not distract the viewer from their faces.
The engagement portrait above was an arty way of getting a shot of the beautiful engagement ring that Kiara is sporting. Kiara and Tye were very open to taking any kind of portraits and were very good at following instructions (thanks guys!). I would like to wish Kiara and Tye all the very best for their wedding next year. They certainly will end up with some gorgeous wedding photography given how photogenic they are.
Well done, Kiara and Tye! You were a delight to take photos of!
Michaelle and Scott's Big Day
The week leading up to Michaelle and Scott's wedding (which was held in Evans Head NSW, an hour south of Byron Bay) threatened to bombard us with torrential rain on the day. I was all prepared to shuttle in to Evans Head and stay for the weekend if the rivers rose any more than they did! But as it turned out, miracles do happen. The wedding day was sunny, clear and held no hint of rain whatsoever. It was the perfect day for wedding photography!
Michaelle chose a stunning, elegant 50's style wedding dress made of a gorgeous creamy lace and accessorised it with a beautiful black sash and funky jewellery. Everything about Micka (as she is known to family and friends) was classy and fun which made my job as wedding photographer that much easier. She and all her girls spent a fun filled morning being pampered at a salon in Evans Head (by the lovely Kim) and then raced back to their accommodation to chill out with some champers before the wedding ceremony.
The wedding was attending by ralatives from near and far with many jetting in from overseas or interstate. The wedding Ceremony and following reception was a true reflection of Micka and Scott's fun-loving personalities. It was a casual affair ringing with the sounds of laughter. For the wedding photography I basically had free reign to do whatever I wanted to do. We opted to go down to the main beach at Evans Head to shoot the formal shots and kept the rest of the photography in a very candid, reporter style, capturing things as they happened. Beach wedding photography is always a pleasure to do.
The above look was achieved by adding what is called "noise" at the editing stage...back in the day of film this effect could easily be achieved by using a very fast film (3200 speed) which would give a very grainy look. Adding an interesting photo into the wedding photography package every now and then spices up the look and clients love it. It is very contemporary and looks great displayed on walls! I would like to thank Micka and Scott for choosing me to be their wedding photographer. If you would like to discuss your wedding photography needs, I am available from Byron Bay down to Coffs Harbour and all the way north to Brisbane and surrounds. Bookings are obviously essential as Byron Bay weddings are very popular!
The Wilde Bunch! Let me introduce you to some very special people: The Wilde Family! We had a fun afternoon together, wandering and shooting portraits.
It's amazing what beautiful shots you can get on a lazy Sunday afternoon...in a cow paddock! Or just hanging out at the beach:
I'd like to thank the "Wilde Bunch" for being such good (lookin') subjects and making my job soooooo very easy! And here's one of my favourites for the day:
And another favourite:
Okay...so I have a few favourites.
Sunshine 'n' Lollipops! What better way to celebrate the warmth of the Winter sun than with a lollipop! Children's portraits have so much more character when you let them do their own thing rather than get them to pose. Most children are shy in front of a camera lens and as a result: posed portraits can look false and awkward.
For this photo shoot, we headed off to a local swimming hole (near Byron Bay and Lismore on the North Coast of New South Wales) late in the afternoon to take advantage of that beautiful, golden afternoon sunlight. The kids were happy to do their own thing and more than delighted to feast on giant lollipops whilst I hung around in the background capturing moments without being intrusive.
As you can see, I managed to get some very nice, natural images. Parents seem to prefer the candid, natural look these days. And I can't say that I blame them! Personally, my walls are filled with images of my children in a natural setting: unposed and being children!
One of my favourites of the day is below. A gorgeous moment between brother and sister...awww.
And there's nothing quite like a dusty country road to make you want to take a million photos!
